Do you ever feel confused by people or by yourself when you notice different versions of the same individual, shifting in personality, values, and speech depending on who’s watching?
This is a strange thing. It’s something that seems very common, and seeing such traits in those we love or within our self should be disturbing. Which version of these people is true? Do they have any solid baseline of person, or do they just ebb and flow with the path of least resistance like waters with no dam? It is very odd.
As a Christian, we should be clean water that is good for drinking, if you get my meaning. Jesus Christ should keep us reserved for those who need to be refreshed. If Jesus is not keeping us, we are running loose, catching every manner of filth along they way, going with the hills and valleys of this world, and polluting the bellies of the thirsty.
Is that what we want to be?
We need to decide. Do we serve Jesus or this world? Do we trust in Jesus to keep us, purify us, and use us for the good of His people or not?
For a young Christian, it is common to struggle. Having that dam built up in us can take a lot of work, and it begins with choosing who we are going to serve.
We cannot be one way with some and another way with others. If our self is not consistent, or at least moving towards consistency, then there is a problem we need to address.
Even old Christians who are firmly held in Jesus can struggle and find pollutants entering their water well. Seeking cleanliness and keeping it is an on-going pursuit. However, we need to be contained by the words of Jesus.
Decide who you are going to serve and be true to that, no matter what the cost. Friends and family might resist or leave, but it is better to be kept by Jesus than to be sucked up by the earth.
